Star of the Week - Mrs. Quayle's Class

The week of Nov 11-15 Lincoln was the Star of the Week. Every day Lincoln got to share something special about himself with his class. On Monday he explained his poster, on Tuesday he brought his special Rock Collection, on Wednesday his favorite book "Bears in the Night", on Thursday pictures of himself holding the turtles and on Friday a treat to share. He wanted me to bring donuts, but I ran out of time. We brought Rice Crispy Treats instead.

He decorated his poster all by himself.

Lincoln is loving 1st grade. He has already advanced 3 reading levels (book-in-a-bag, yellow star and yellow dot - not sure what that all really means but he is improving). He is doing great in his Math Facts and loves PE and Science. He gets to play sports everyday at recess and told me a couple of weeks ago that "All he could think about was football".

I got to have lunch with Lincoln for the "Western Family BBQ".  He dressed himself!

I love that he is getting so independent.

Soccer

Lincoln played in the U8 division of the AYSO soccer league this Fall. His team name was the Sharks. He had a great coach, Coach Chuck. Shawn and I both felt that Chuck was great at teaching the boys soccer skills, but more importantly about respecting one another, and how to have fun.

These poor boys, the first half of the season was HOT! They would be out there in 95+ temps in the sun, no shade, running their little hearts out. Lincoln has worked hard on running fast(er), controlling the ball, and becoming a goalie. He was pretty impressive as a goalie. He could stop 3 in 5 shots and would dive to save the ball. It was awesome!    I tried to upload a video but everything moved so fast that we don't really have a great video of Lincoln with the ball.

Lincoln saved 5 shots in a row during this game!

His 1st trophy.

We are so proud of him!

First bike casualty

Right after I completed the post about Lincoln mastering the art of bike riding he had a serious fall and ended up in the ER with a sprained ankle. He wasn't able to walk on it for almost 3 weeks. It was slightly entertaining to watch him hop on one foot and crawl on his hands and knees to get where he needed to go.

We read Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets to pass the time.

Lincoln was very nervous about the x-ray, but he survived. You can see the his swollen ankle in the next couple of pictures. I wish we would have taken a picture a week later. His entire foot, ankle and lower part of his leg were swollen and black and blue.

Adria was in a better mood than Lincoln

Bike Riding!

Lincoln has finally mastered the art of "riding a bike" - Now we can legitimately use the phrase "Its like riding a bike".  We started working on riding the bike with out training wheels back in March, but then he received a Razor Scooter for his birthday and lost interest in his bike. We decided this week it was time to learn how to ride for real!

I took him to the park gave him a couple of refresher coaching tips, told him to say to himself "I believe in me" and pushed him down the little grassy hill. I could hear him yelling at the top of his lungs over and over "I believe in me". He made it all the way down the hill and up the sidewalk around the park before falling over. He tried over and over again and in half an hour he had it under control.  The next day he learned how to start and stop all by himself, so no push from me to get started and stopping by using the breaks instead of falling over. We are SOO SOO proud of him.

The first pictures are his early attempts at learning to ride back in March.

Kindergarten Musical

On May 21st  Lincoln had his "Kindergarten Musical" where the entire kindergarten performed all the songs they had learned through out the year in music class It was awesome to see Lincoln surrounded by his friends obviously enjoying the environment. His teacher Miss Bruce served cookies and milk and awarded him and his classmates on their accomplishments throughout the year. Lincoln received the "Wonderful Writer" award. Meaning that he is always creative in his pictures and accompanying sentences. We are so proud of all his hard work this year.

I can't believe kindergarten is over!

This is Lincoln's classroom and a very cool shot of him running to get his award.

Lincoln and Miss Shawnie Bruce.

All Tied Up

The only pair of shoes he has with laces are this church shoes. We don't really think about learning to tie shoes except on Sunday's when we are trying to get out the door on time for our Service.  We are so proud of Lincoln for learning to tie his shoes in about 10 minutes.

Lincoln Logic

Tonight I was on the way home from running some errands with the boys when Linc and I somehow started talking about how you earn money for the work you do. I gave him an example of how he gets 50 cents when he takes out the trash each week. I explained that when I work, I'm earning money in the same way. He asked me how many "cents" I made for working. Knowing it might be difficult for him to understand my salary, I just said, "Well, I make a lot more cents but I use it to buy food, and clothes, and pay for our house and cars, and to do fun things with our family. Without skipping a beat he stopped me and said "Dad, that doesn't matter to me because, whatever, I'm just a kid!"

6:The Par-tay!

Originally we had planned on having a low key party at the park - but the weather had other plans.  The weekend of the party is was raining and the high for the day was 60. For those of you living out of AZ that might sound balmy and perfect - to us Arizonians - its practically FREEZING.   We moved the party at the last minute to Peter Piper Pizza (so much for low key) and had a great time!

Shawn made this AMAZING SPIDERMAN CAKE

The boys on the right of the picture are Jonas and Joshua his new friends from school.

Wind Cave Hike

Shawn and Lincoln hiked Wind Cave a couple of weeks ago.  Check out the awesome view.

"Dad, I am pretty good at not falling off of cliff's"

Lincoln always wants a picture with a cactus when we are out in the desert.

Successful hike!
